The always controversial "Médico de la Salsa" is now a permanent resident of Miami after many well chronicled conflicts with the Cuban government which ultimately led to his controversial coro "El Puente" (now the title song of his first release since moving to Miami) and his subsequent defection from Cuba. His career direction seems to change almost monthly, but currently he's barely playing with the world-class timba band he has at his disposal after signing a contract with BMG Latin to record pop music.

Recorded live in Miami with absolutely incredible energy, "El Puente" has 4 songs not included on any studio disc plus a healthy assortment of the very biggest hits from the previous 3 studio albums. It also has extended arrangements of the earlier songs with additional coros, and the mix is better than "Para mi gente" or "De buena fe". The only downside is that Manolín's already questionable singing is less accurate in concert. If his singing doesn't bother you, this is the perfect starting place - like a greatest hits album with the kicker that the band plays with a searing hot live energy not found on any studio timba CD. Each disc contains one set, and each has a completely separate, extensive review with lots of audio and historical information on Manolín, his band, and the various controversies that seem to always be swirling around him. Highly Recommended. -- Kevin Moore of www.TIMBA.com
