Beyond Salsa Piano is a history and anthology of the role of the piano in the Cuban rhythm section – from its first appearance to the present. In a broader sense, it’s a study of the tumbao – the art of creating music from layers of repeating rhythmic and melodic phrases. Whether these syncopated figures are called tumbaos, guajeos, montunos, riffs or vamps, this Afro-Cuban concept lies at the heart of nearly every popular music genre from salsa to rock , funk, R&B, hiphop and jazz.

While presented as a set of method books, the series doubles as a history course and record collecting guide for listeners, dancers, and players of instruments other than the piano.

Perhaps the most important goal of the series is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how tumbaos are constructed, their central role in the texture of Latin music of all eras, and the endless possibilities they provide for creative composing and arranging.

First solo release from this ex-VanVan star, singer Pedrito Calvo. This remarkable dance record includes some of the big hits he popularized during his 26-year tenure with Juan Formell y Los Van Van. A 'must-have record for collectors.

ENGLISH: On November 20th, 2000, soon after finishing a tour across Argentina and Uruguay, Pedro says goodbye to his with Los Van Van, his steady gig of many, many years, in order to pursue a solo career and his own orchestra. At that point he was looking for a more mellow and romantic sound. He completed several performances as a guest singer with the Afro-Cuban All-Stars (led by Juan Marcos González) and with José Luis Cortés of NG la Banda. Pedro is very proud to have worked so many years with artists of such caliber as the Juan Formell (director of Los Van Van) and pianist César Pedroso (Pupy). Now he releases "Vengo Con La Justicia", his first on the Envidia Label, baptizing his orchestra as "La Justicia".

ESPAÑOL: On November 20th, 2000, poco después de terminar una gira en toda la Argentina y Uruguay, Pedro le dice adiós a sus años con Los Van Van con el fin de empeza su carrera como solista y formar su propia orquesta. En esos momentos él estaba buscando un sonido más suave y romántico. Completó varias actuaciones como invitado cantante con los Afro-Cuban All Stars (dirigido por Juan Marcos González) y con José Luis Cortés de NG la Banda. Pedro se siente muy orgulloso de haber trabajado tantos años con artistas de tal calibre como Juan Formell (director de Los Van Van) y el pianista César Pedroso (Pupy). Ahora lanza "Vengo Con La Justicia", su primera disco con el sello Envidia, bautizando su orquesta como "La Justicia".
